Boys battle back from 2-0 deficit to beat Watertown 4-2 ...

The Lexington High Varsity boys' hockey team kicked off their season this past Saturday, hosting the Watertown/Wayland Red Raiders in front of a packed crowd at the J.W. Hayden Ice Arena. Having lost the season opener to Watertown in each of the past two years, the Minutemen were eager to seek some revenge. This year’s squad boasts a strong mix of depth, grit, and a balance of experience and youth — qualities that were on full display Saturday night.

Wearing their new home white jerseys with navy and gold trim, the Minutemen found themselves in an early hole, trailing 2-0 to the Red Raiders. However, Senior Captain Adam O'Shaughnessy sparked the hometown team, scoring from the slot with a nice assist from sophomore Connor O'Leary to cut the deficit to 2-1.

After O'Shaughnessy's goal, momentum swung in Lexington's direction as Senior forward Chris Shu responded by tying the game with a precise snap shot that navigated through traffic and slipped between the Watertown goalkeeper's legs, knotting the score at 2-2.

Lexington continued to press the attack through the remainder of the second period and into the third. Their hard work paid off

when a turnover off an offensive-zone faceoff landed on sophomore Ryan Jenness's stick. Without hesitation, Jenness drove to the net and ripped a beautiful shot just over the goalie’s shoulder and under the crossbar, giving Lexington a 3-2 lead.

In search of an equalizer, Watertown pulled their goalie for an extra skater with just under two minutes remaining. The Minutemen stood strong during those final moments, fending off the Red Raiders' push.

As the clock wound down, senior Chris Shu sealed the victory with a perfectly executed turnaround shot from just inside the Watertown blue line, sending the puck into the empty net for his second goal of the game. The Minutemen triumphed 4-2, finally putting the past two years of losses to Watertown behind them.

Sophomore goaltender Timmy Rinaldi, making his first varsity start, was outstanding in net,

earning his first varsity win. Rinaldi was especially sharp in the opening period, keeping the Minutemen in the game with key saves and setting the tone for the rest of the match.

The Minutemen will head to the Ice Palace in Burlington on Wednesday night to face the always tough Burlington Red Devils.

If this year's matchup is anything like last year's thriller, where Lexington pulled it's goalie and tied up the game with just 36 seconds remaining in the third period, you might want to bring some extra Tums for your nerves!

Congrats to the following players on their firsts. First Varity Win - Timmy Rinaldi. First Varsity Point - Connor O'Leary. First Varsity Goal - Ryan Jenness and Chris Shu.
