The Kings of Newton!

In a dominant 48-hour stretch, the boys took down Newton North (3–0) and Newton South (7–2) to cement themselves as the undisputed Kings of Newton! The back to back wins keep the momentum rolling as Lexington now turns its attention to two tough Middlesex League matchups this week — Stoneham on Wednesday at 6:00 PM and Wakefield on Saturday at 8:00 PM (both games at Stoneham Arena).

Much like the Newton North game, Lexington wasted no time getting on the board scoring just 52 seconds into the contest, Dylan Lane won a battle along the wall and slipped the puck to Connor O’Leary behind the net. O’Leary drove to the front and threaded a pass across the crease, where Brady Kingsbury buried it to give Lexington the early lead.

The remainder of the period featured end-to-end action, with Lexington controlling much of the play. With 28 seconds left in the first, the Minutemen struck again. Ryan Li carried the puck into the offensive zone and circled behind the net with a Newton South defender in pursuit. As Li came out the opposite side on the net, he hit the brakes, reversed direction, and shook his man before sliding a slick backhand feed into the slot to Dylan Lane who wasted no time burying the pass in the back of the net. End of the first period Lexington 2 - Newton South 0.

The Captain led the way against Newton South with 2 goals and an assist.

In the second period, Lexington extended its lead to 3–0 when Joe Dolci tracked down a puck that rimmed around the offensive-zone boards and quickly fired it on net. The shot caught a slight deflection and an off-guard goalie, sneaking through to find the back of the net.

Newton South answered next, scoring off a post–faceoff scramble. A breakdown in defensive coverage — with the weak-side winger late getting to the slot — allowed the puck to find the back of the net.

The lapse proved brief. Just minutes later, Lexington regained control as Kyle Li moved the puck back to Andrew Pechinsky at the point. Pechinsky unleashed a hard, knee-high shot that Karl Gude expertly tipped past the goalie, restoring the Minutemen’s momentum.

About three minutes later, it was Gude once again. Defenseman Caleb Fehm carried the puck down from the point and sent a perfectly timed centering pass. The Newton South goalie made the initial save, but Gude stayed with the play, pouncing on the rebound and tucking it home.

Score at the end of 2 - Lexington 5 - Newton South 1.

Next, it was the captain’s turn to strike again. Dylan Lane jumped on a loose puck near his own blue line and exploded up ice on a two-on-one with Aaron Yu. With the Newton South defender committed to taking away the pass, Lane carried the puck into the offensive zone and snapped a shot from just inside the left faceoff dot, beating the South goalie clean before he could even react. The rout was on 6-1 Lexington.

Lexington’s final goal began with a crisp breakout pass from Sam Xi, who hit Connor O’Leary in stride as he exited the defensive zone. O’Leary then moved the puck wide through the neutral zone to a streaking Ryan Jenness. Jenness drove the defenseman deep, hit the brakes, and threaded a perfect pass to O’Leary, who cut from behind the net to the front and buried the feed. The goal marked O’Leary’s second in his last three games.

Newton South added a late goal, making the final score Lexington 7 – Newton South 2.
