Training & Conditioning
LHS Boys Hockey Pre-Season Off-Ice Training & Conditioning Opportunity
In recent years it has taken the LHS team extra time to ramp up conditioning at the start of the season, largely due to limited pre-season preparation. This offseason training we have an opportunity that will help players and the team begin stronger, faster, and better prepared.
Note: Participation in this training program is completely optional. It is not mandated or endorsed by the Coach, the school, or any of its affiliates. This is simply an open opportunity for any returning or incoming LHS hockey player to work with an independent trainer in preparation for the season. Top Massachusetts high school programs already make off-ice training part of their regular fall preparation, and this new pre-season opportunity aims to replicate this for LHS players.
Sessions will be led by Rick Mackie—an ACE Certified Personal Trainer, Northeastern graduate (BS in Physical Education and Cardiorespiratory Health), former player, current LBYH Board Member, and assistant coach with both LBYH and the 2013 Wizards Elite. A Lexington resident and hockey parent, Rick brings playing experience, professional training expertise, and a clear understanding of how conditioning translates to on-ice performance. Training will incorporate plyometrics and other proven methods to build hockey-specific athleticism, focusing on speed, agility, stability, and mobility
Since the season is rapidly approaching, we need to quickly gauge interest in the program. Please email Kevin Lane, who is helping to coordinate this effort at klanenumber9@gmail.com to confirm if you’d like your player to participate.
Due to evening conflicts with players on multiple, fall half-season teams and differing schedules, sessions will run twice a week in the morning before school.
